A ruby-red velvet pheta banded in crystal and topped with a gold finial; a magenta shawl; a marigold dhoti scattered with clear stones. A deep blue gem sits at the navel and crystal chains fall on either side of the trunk. At eight inches, he is small, and the grey mushak beside him is smaller still.
Diamond-work murtis are finished after firing — each stone placed by hand into the painted clay in the Pen workshop. Small idols are the fiddliest, because the stones stay the same size while everything else shrinks.
The body is shadu mitti, so despite the sparkle, this is a fully eco-friendly Ganpati. Small enough to immerse at home in a bucket, where the clay dissolves, and the water can go into the garden.
